questions (three of three)

should we follow the promptings of our heart?
or should we follow the promptings of our mind?

time and experience have shown me that my heart has the ability to lead me in the right direction – provided that my motives are appropriate. it’s my heart that leads me and my mind that determines whether or not the motives are right and pure. if i want (or need) something and i have the ability to pursue it and it’s for all of the right reasons, then i think that i should go ahead and pursue. that doesn’t mean that i will necessarily get it. but i think that it would be acceptable to pursue it and then walk through the doors that open and try others when the ones before me close.

here is the problem though. too often, what we pursue is for all of the wrong reasons. why? because we have an incredible capacity to justify and to rationalize and to convince ourselves that what is wrong is really right. or at least not that bad. and too often, we ignore the checks and balances that we were created with because they keep us from getting our way.

when we have doubts about something, i think it’s because our heart and mind aren’t on the same page. that might be what they call a “gut check.” and when we have a funny feeling in our gut (or perhaps our soul), i think it’s because our body is telling us that something isn’t right.

giggling

there we are, snuggling together, and she gets the giggles. funny thing, isn't it? how giggles are contagious. and before long, we're both giggling – uncontrollably giggling – and wondering if it will ever end.
